Southend Pier Museum Trip

On Wednesday 27 November a group of 27 of us had a super visit to the Southend on Sea Pier Museum.

This is a little gem of a place situated under the Pier reception.
It is open  on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am (but please check on website before visiting to make sure it is open as it is run by volunteers).  It is a free Museum full of wonderful pieces of history.

We began our visit with a quick introduction made by Richard, one of the volunteers and treasurer.

Then we all had a wander and enjoyed for example, the interactive penny slots, including a "What the butler saw" machine!  In this regard, if anyone has any old currency at home such as pennies and/or thruppeny bits please think about donating these as their machines, as you can imagine, do not take modern currency.

The volunteers were there on hand to answer our questions and made us very welcome.  There is a shop (!) which sold some interesting books and copies of the old posters showing us Southend in its heyday.
You can drive a train or be a signalman which many of us enjoyed.

Thank you to everyone who came along as the weather was not very nice, Tim (the Museum's chairman) said it was a pleasure to have such an engaging group visit so thank you everyone for all your questions etc.

All the best until our next adventure
